Need help right now?

If you are thinking about hurting yourself, please talk to someone. In the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). In the UK and Ireland, Samaritans: 116 123. Anywhere else, find a free, confidential line at findahelpline.com. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.

In short: Castfic is for ages 13+ (16+ in the EU and UK) and for your own characters or fan versions of existing ones. Scenes can have drama, rivalry, slow-burn romance, peril and angst — like a good young-adult novel — but no sexual content, no graphic gore, no hate, and nothing sexual involving minors, ever. Every character card, direction and line is checked by automatic moderation.

What's not allowed

  • Sexual content of any kind, including erotic role-play. Romance stays at the level of a young-adult novel: feelings, tension, at most a kiss between adult characters.
  • Anything sexual involving a minor or a character who seems under 18. This is blocked outright and logged for review.
  • Graphic violence: gore, torture detail, sexual violence, or glorifying real-world mass violence.
  • Hate and harassment targeting real groups or real people.
  • Real-world harm: instructions for weapons, drugs or crimes, even “in character”.
  • Other people's characters and text. Write your own version of a fan character, but don't paste scripts, chapters or official art; Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Nintendo or Pokémon characters are blocked. You confirm this before every scene. Rights holders can use our DMCA process.
  • Real people as characters, including celebrities and people you know.
  • AI companion chat: characters talk to each other in a scene you direct — they won't become your partner or claim to be human.

Mature themes (signed-in adults, opt-in)

Adults who sign in with Google can switch on Mature themes in their account. Scenes may then go darker — real cruelty, grief, betrayal, non-graphic violence and character death — and adult romance can reach an intimate moment, which always fades out or cuts away. Explicit sexual content and graphic gore stay off, it never applies to a cast with teenage characters, and mature scenes stay out of the gallery, remixes and multiplayer. Share links for a mature scene show an 18+ notice before the scene.

How moderation works

  1. Before the AI sees your message, fast rules and a small safety classifier check it.
  2. Before you see the AI's reply, the same check runs on the passage.
  3. If something drifts out of bounds, we usually steer the scene back in-fiction (the director cuts away) rather than lecture you.
  4. Attempts to jailbreak the cast (“ignore your rules”, “developer mode”) are ignored and the scene carries on.
  5. Sexual content involving minors is a hard stop: the scene ends, and a short excerpt is kept so a person can review it and, where the law requires, report it.

We log only the category of a flag and a fingerprint of the text — not your scene — except for that last case.

Self-harm and crisis signals

If something you write suggests you might hurt yourself, the scene stops and we show crisis resources (988, Samaritans, findahelpline.com). The AI does not try to counsel you, and the scene doesn't continue that thread. Fictional characters facing danger in a plot are fine; this is about you, the writer.

Shared scenes

Your scenes are private unless you press Share link. Shared scenes pass automatic moderation first and can then be opened by anyone with the link. Shared pages are never listed in search engines. Every shared page has a ⚑ Report button; a report about a minor hides the page immediately, and three reports of any kind hide it until reviewed.

Age

Before your first scene we ask for your birth year (we keep only whether you're old enough, not the year). Players under 13 — under 16 in the EU and UK — can't use Castfic. Under-18s can use the free plan but can't buy. Parents who believe their child has used Castfic can write to hello@castfic.com and we'll delete the data.
