OC generator with a character card that actually gets played

Fill in a card, or roll a random one, then put your OC in a scene with someone who does not know their secret.

A tiny café on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. The espresso machine is broken and the only open table is by the window.

In shortCastfic is an OC generator that goes further: write or randomize a card with a voice, motive and secret, then your OC is played separately in a trope scene. One click rewrites it as prose or a screenplay, and a memory goes back on the card. 1 free scene without an account, then 1 a day with Google sign-in.

How to make an OC and test them in a scene

  1. Open a new card. Fill in name, pronouns, how they look, a sample of how they talk, what they want and a secret. Or press random OC.
  2. Add one or two more characters, yours or random ones, and set how they are related.
  3. Start a coffee shop AU or any other trope and press play.
  4. Read how your OC behaves. If a line feels wrong, edit the card and redo the round.

What goes on a card

  • Voice: two or three sample lines matter more than adjectives. "Dry, quick, teases when nervous" works; "funny" does not.
  • Motive: what they want in this scene, in one sentence.
  • Secret: the one thing only they know. It is what makes scenes interesting.
  • Look and pronouns, for the prose rewrite.
  • Up to 8 saved characters on the free plan.

This is a text tool. It does not draw your OC; use it for the part that is usually hardest to fake, which is how they sound next to someone else.

Same scene, two different OCs

Scene: a coffee shop on a rainy Tuesday, one free table. Two example cards, two example lines each. (Illustrative.)

CharacterCard in one lineLine in the scene
Tobias QuillClock repairer, formal, bad liar, secretly lonely"I would not call it your table, exactly. It has simply been mine at this hour for six years."
Ines VargaBike courier, talks fast, keeps promises"Great, we both lose the table. I'll sit on your left and you can not mention it."

The point of the test is not who wins the table. It is whether each line could only come from that character.

Why test an OC in a scene

A card tells you who they are on paper. A scene shows what they do when someone else wants the same thing. After the scene a memory is saved on the card, so the next scene starts from what happened.

Frequently asked questions

Does it make pictures of my OC?

No. Castfic is for the written side: voice, motive, secret and how they act with others.

Can I import an OC I already made?

Yes. Import a SillyTavern card (PNG or JSON), or paste your description into a new card.

Is my OC private?

Yes. Cards and scenes stay in your account. Share links are off by default and shared pages are noindex.

Can I use characters from a show or book?

Yes, as your own fan version: write their card in your words. Don't paste scripts or chapters, and Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Nintendo or Pokémon characters are blocked.

How many OCs can I save?

8 on the free plan, 200 on Plus.
